Cultural Changes In Newspapers

Representation
Is about who is shown and how they are shown/portayed. Are they shown in a positive or negative way?

Describe the demographic of each group.
Who is represented in each one? Who is not?

The Sun
Nobody is really represented in this article. All the articles written are based on the war that was going on in May 1982.

Age – I think this is aimed at anyone from the age of 17 as from the age of 17 you were allowed to join the army.

Ethnicity – there is no ethnicity to this story.

Gender: It could be seen as being aimed at males but females may of also been intrested in the war as their relatives may have been in the war at the time.

Regionality: It is aimed at UK readers as The Sun is only distributed in the UK.

Social Class: I think that this is mainly aimed at middle-lower class because these are the types of people who read newspapers such as The Sun.

Social issue: This talks about the war and the title 'We told you first' suggests that they knew what was going to happen and they pre-warned the readers, so it is influencing violence and opinions.

Disability: There is no issues with disability in this particular article.

The Times - In this article the two people that are being represented is the French PM François Fitlon and a flood victim named Jordan Rice.

Age – I think the target age range for the article is 25+ as I think this age range would be more interested in politics and the second article about the flood victim is aimed at 16+ as I think young adults would also be interested in this kind of news.

Ethnicity – I think all types of ethnicity would be interested the articles as the article is about politics and also about a disaster which does not involve ethnicity.

Gender – the articles would be aimed at both genders.

Regional – The flood victim article I think would be published in the area of Queensland as this is where the event happened but I also think this story would be published elsewhere as it a tragedy. I think the French PM article will be worldwide as it could affect quite a few areas.

Social Class: I think the PM article will be aimed at higher/upper class readers and the flood victim from lower to upper class.

Social Issue: This relates to the social issue of both Government and also the flood victim. The flood victim dominates the article compared to the French MP so it is suggesting that the flood victim is by far more important that the French MP.

Disability:  N/A

Metro: The main article is based on Madonna and her adopted children.

Age: I think this is aimed at people who aged 18+ as Madonna has been around for a lot longer than the latest artists.

Ethnicity – I think the article hit thes British, American and African culture as Madonna adopted the children from Africa.

Gender: This is aimed at both genders.

Regionality: I think the main places would be America and Africa as Madonna is from America and her children are from Africa.

Social Class: I think that all types of social class would be interested in this article.

Social Issue: The social issue I think focuses on the cruise that Madonna and her adopted children are going on.

Disability: N/A
